DSR calculator Malaysia 2026

Your debt service ratio (DSR) is the share of your net monthly income that goes to loan repayments. Banks use it to decide whether you can take on a new home, car or personal loan. Enter your gross salary and your repayments: the calculator works out your net pay and your DSR.

On a RM 5,000.00 salary the net pay is about RM 4,305.35. With a RM 800.00 car loan, RM 150.00 of PTPTN and a new RM 1,500.00 home loan instalment the DSR is 56.9%.

How banks work out DSR

DSR = total monthly repayments / net monthly income x 100. Repayments include every loan instalment (housing, car, personal, PTPTN) and a minimum repayment on credit cards, which many banks count as 5% of the outstanding balance. The new loan you are applying for is included too.

Net income is usually your salary after EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB, which the salary calculator shows line by line. Some banks also count part of your fixed allowances, rental income or a spouse's income on a joint loan.

What DSR limit do banks use?

Bank Negara Malaysia does not set one DSR limit for everyone. Each bank sets its own, and many allow a higher ratio for higher incomes because more money is left over in ringgit terms. The target in the calculator is only an example: ask the bank for its figure before you apply.

If the problem is your CCRIS or CTOS record rather than your DSR, see which licensed lenders still assess applicants with a weak record in pinjaman untuk blacklist (in Bahasa Malaysia).

How to lower your DSR

Pay off a small loan or card balance before applying, choose a longer tenure to lower the new instalment, or apply jointly with a spouse whose income the bank can count. Try the options in the home loan calculator and the personal loan calculator.

Questions

Is DSR based on gross or net salary?

Most Malaysian banks use net income, after statutory deductions. That is why this calculator starts from your gross salary and works out the net first.

Does a credit card count in DSR if I pay it in full?

Often yes. Many banks count a percentage of the outstanding balance or of the limit even if you clear it every month.

Does CCRIS or CTOS affect approval as well as DSR?

Yes. DSR shows whether the repayments fit your income; your CCRIS and CTOS records show how you have repaid before. Both matter.
