Income tax calculator Malaysia 2026

Your yearly income tax is worked out on chargeable income: total income less reliefs. The resident tax bands are then applied, the rebate is taken off if you qualify, and zakat reduces the tax ringgit for ringgit. Enter your salary, bonus and reliefs to see the tax for the year and how it compares with the PCB already deducted.

A single employee earning RM6,000 a month plus a RM6,000 bonus, claiming RM2,500 of other reliefs, has chargeable income of RM 62,150.00 and pays RM 2,836.50 of tax, an effective rate of 3.64%.

Reliefs and rebates

Everyone gets the individual relief of RM9,000. EPF contributions are relieved up to RM4,000 and SOCSO plus EIS up to RM350. A spouse with no income adds RM4,000, and each child under 18 RM2,000.

Other reliefs, such as lifestyle purchases, medical costs, insurance, education fees and contributions to a private retirement scheme, each have their own caps and need receipts. Add up what you can claim and enter the total.

If your chargeable income is RM35,000 or less you get a RM400 rebate, plus RM400 for a spouse with no income. On a RM42,000 salary the rebate cancels the tax completely: chargeable income RM 28,750.00, tax RM 12.50.

PCB, refunds and filing

PCB deducted from your salary every month is an advance on this tax. When you file Form BE, LHDN compares the two: if PCB was higher you get a refund, if lower you pay the balance. See the monthly figure in the PCB calculator.

Resident employees file Form BE by 30 April for the previous year's income, with extra time for e-Filing on MyTax.

Questions

How much income is tax-free in Malaysia?

With only the standard reliefs a single employee pays no tax until chargeable income passes RM35,000, because the rebate covers the tax up to that point. That is roughly RM42,000 of salary a year or more once EPF relief is counted.

Is bonus taxed differently?

No. A bonus is added to your income for the year and taxed at the same rates. PCB on the bonus month is higher because the employer deducts tax on the bonus straight away.

Does zakat reduce my income tax?

Yes. Zakat paid to a state religious authority is a rebate: it reduces the tax itself, not the income, up to the amount of tax payable.

Why is my tax different from my PCB?

PCB assumes the same salary all year and only the reliefs you declared to your employer. Bonuses, a job change or extra reliefs claimed when you file change the final figure.
